School-Based Tuition Assistance

Sibling rates, church or parish pricing, scholarships and sliding-scale tuition offered by the school itself. These keep applying when a family uses TEFA.

The Comptroller's tuition rules don't let a participating school charge a TEFA family more than other families, and they keep across-the-board discounts like sibling and member rates in force. A school may consider the award when it decides need-based aid.

Several Valley schools told the state finder what they offer. Valley Christian Heritage School in Alamo and Sanctuary Christian Academy in Edinburg reported scholarships, sliding-scale tuition and sibling discounts; South Texas Christian Academy and Mid Valley Christian School reported scholarships and sibling discounts.

Before you sign an enrollment contract, ask for three things in writing: the school's TEFA status for the coming year, which fees the account can be billed for, and the aid it offers on any remaining balance.

Combining it with other sources

Valley families rarely rely on one source. This one generally combines with the school's own discounts and scholarships and with at least one other source on our list. The funding check works out the right mix for your child.
