Special education and therapy support in Valley private schools: schools, providers and IEP money
A handful of Hidalgo County private schools report special-education services, speech therapy or reading specialists, and approved therapists across the Valley can be paid from a TEFA account. With a current IEP, the account at a participating school can reach $30,000; the exact amount depends on your district and the IEP setting. Below are the schools, the providers by specialty and the district totals.
Dyslexia & dysgraphia
Valley schools that told the state they employ reading specialists, plus approved Hidalgo and Starr County tutors and therapists who name dyslexia or dysgraphia as a specialty. Many Valley children are learning to read in two languages at once, so ask any provider whether it assesses and teaches in Spanish as well as English.
2 schools · 4 approved providers →Autism & behavioral support
Campuses that list special-education services in the finder, and approved Valley providers offering autism support or behavioral therapy. Specialized private programs are scarce between Mission and Weslaco, so many families pair a small Christian or parish school with outside therapy paid from the account.
1 schools · 7 approved providers →Speech, language & hearing
McAllen and Edinburg schools that offer speech therapy on site, and approved speech-language pathologists with a Hidalgo or Starr County address. For a bilingual preschooler, a speech evaluation can also help sort out whether a delay is a language difference or a disorder.
2 schools · 9 approved providers →ADHD & neurodivergent learners
Approved providers that list ADHD, executive function or neurodivergent learners among their specialties, along with Valley schools reporting math or reading specialists and small-group help. Class sizes at most Hidalgo County private schools are small, which some families find helps on its own.
